Teepee Tour Stages

Stage 01     40 km     House On The Hill

 
MAP – House on the hill – 40 km’s  (Map opens in new tab)

Start/Finish: Cyclepath
No doubt about it, this is the ride that will satisfy any cyclist.

ROUTE:
South on the black & white trail Cross TWP Rd 120 & continue straight south until the farm house (green roof) on the right at the top of the hill 20 km from the start.
Turn-around & retrace route

RIDE TIP:
This ride is uphill on the way out of town Ideal to complete when the wind is from any direction, except when there is a strong wind from the north It is a fast ride back when there is a strong wind from the south

EXPRESS TURNAROUND:
Turn around at the bridge located at the base of the steep hill 9.3 km’s from the starting point (approx 5.1 km south of highway 120). See map for more details.

Stage 02     58 km     Little Plume

Start/Finish: Cyclepath
Big climb up to the little plume church

ROUTE:
South on the black & white trail for 7.4 km
Turn left onto TWP Rd 114
Proceed East to Eagle Butte Road (12.3 km, also called Range Rd 51)
Turn right & head south on Eagle Butte Rd
Stop at Little Plume Church (29 km) & enjoy the view
Turn-around & retrace route to start

RIDE TIP:
This ride is uphill all the way to the turnaround, with lots of false flat sections
When there is a strong wind from the south it is a hard workout on the way out, but a fast ride home
It is suitable to ride when the wind is from any direction except when there is a strong wind from the north.

EXPRESS TURNAROUND:
Turn around at the farmyard, immediately before the correction line (Jog in the road). Approx 18 km from the start.

Stage 03     49 km     Rattlesnake Dam

Start/Finish: Gravity Sports
Brave the rattlesnakes on the Holsom Road

ROUTE:
Turn left out of Gravity Sports onto 2nd Street SE
Turn left onto 4th Ave SE
Then turn right onto 3rd Street SE & follow it onto 3rd Street SW
After bend in road to the left it turns into Gershaw Drive SW (Hwy 3)
Follow Hwy 3 out past Hillside Cemetery, past the airport
Turn right (West) on Holsom Road SW (Hwy 523) at the Spitz Distribution Centre
Proceed on the paved road to Rattlesnake Dam 24.5 km
Retrace route to start

RIDE TIP:
This ride is a prairie ride with a few small hills.
It’s ideal to complete when the wind is from any direction except when there is a stiff east wind
Good elevational gain from the city to the Rattle Snake Reservoir makes for a faster ride back

EXPRESS TURNAROUND:
Turn around after the sharp dip and before the 90 degree bend in the road, approx 13.8 km from the start. See map for more details.

Stage 04     58 km     Bowmanton Road

Start/Finish: Gravity Sports
Rolling Rolling Rolling

ROUTE:
From Gravity Sports head north towards Riverside Veterans Memorial Park
Turn right (west) onto 1st Street & ride under the train track underpass
Turn right immediately after tracks onto N.Railway St.
Continue riding along N.Railway St. up Porters hill which becomes Hwy 41a
At the 13 km marker Hwy 41 and 41a junction, turn left (north) onto Hwy 41
Head north on Hwy 41 for 5.4 km’s then turn left onto range road 43
Stay on range road 43 (Roughly 16 km’s) until you get to the Bowmanton Compressor Station
Turn-around & retrace route

RIDE TIP:
This ride has a hill as you are leaving town, then once you get on range road 43 it is all rolling hills out to the compressor station. Could be tougher if there is a strong wind from the North or South. It will get you one way for sure.

Stage 05     50 km     CFB Suffield

Start/Finish: Gravity Sports
Beautiful ride past the race track to the edge of CFB Suffield with a surprise climb

ROUTE:
Ride west along 3rd Street to Saamis Drive
Turn right onto Brier Park Rd or Saamis Drive (both roads take you too Box Springs Road)
Climb the hill
At the junction with Box Springs Road (4.4 km) turn left onto Box Springs Road
Ride north until Box Springs Road veers left & becomes Broadway (6.6 km)
Turn right to continue on Box Springs Road past the Methanex Plant
Continue riding north to the entrance to CFB Suffield (25 km)

RIDE TIP:
This ride is a flat prairie ride with some rolling hills
It’s ideal to complete when the wind is from a north westerly direction

EXPRESS TURNAROUND:
Turn around immediately before the 90 degree bend in the road (approx 16.4 km from the start). See map for more details.

Stage 06     60 km     Hays Road

Start/Finish: Tim Hortons Hwy 1 Redcliff
No doubt about it, this is the ride that will satisfy any cyclist.

ROUTE:
Ride west on Hwy #1 to the Hwy #524 Junction (7 km)
Turn left (S – SW) onto Hwy #524
Ride west until junction with Range Road 93 – This is gravel road heading north, 30 km from the start location
Turnaround & retrace route back to the start

RIDE TIP:
This ride is a flat prairie ride. The cycling club uses the Hays Road for their time trial challenges
The elevation does not change much, so if you want an easier ride after the turnaround, complete this ride when the wind is from a westerly direction

EXPRESS TURNAROUND:
Turn around at Range Road 83 (approx. 20 km from start).

Stage 07     52 km     Rock Around Teepee

Start/Finish: Gravity Sports
Circular ride that loops all the way around Medicine Hat.

ROUTE:
From Gravity Sports head north towards Riverside Veterans Memorial Park
Turn right (west) onto 1st Street & ride under the train track underpass
Turn right immediately after tracks onto N.Railway St.
Continue riding along N.Railway St. which becomes Hwy 41a
At the 13 km marker Hwy 41 and 41a junction, turn right (south) onto Hwy 41 heading towards Dunmore. Continue straight across Hwy 1 (Hwy 41 becomes TWP Rd 120)
Continue along TWP Rd 120 to the Hwy 3 Junction
Turn right and head NE into Medicine Hat, Hwy 3 becomes 3rd Street.
Continue on 3rd Street to downtown
Turn left onto South Railway Street & finish at Gravity Sports

RIDE TIP:
Whatever the wind direction this is a great ride with some nice little climbs

Stage 08     20 km     Trail To Echodale

Start/Finish: Gravity Sports
Don`t scoff at the distance, there`s a lot of climbing

ROUTE:
Head out from Gravity Sports, up past Dairy Queen downtown towards Hwy #3
Turn right onto 11th Ave & head north to Gas City Campground
Just before the campground there is a paved path on the left side (1.2 km)
Turn onto paved path & take it to Echodale Park
Ride past the parking lot onto road & climb the hill out of the park on the main road in
Follow the road to the Holsom Road (Hwy # 523 Junction
Turn left & ride east to Hwy #3
Turn left heading NE on Hwy #3
Turn left onto 10th Ave & turn north (First set of lights)
Turn right (east) onto 7th Street SW back to Gravity Sports downtown (Or complete another lap)

RIDE TIP:
The brave hearted can complete the climbs as many times as they can at Echodale Park
Climb up the paved road, descend back down past the parking lot & climb the path to the top, Descend, Repeat

Stage 09     76 km     Red Rock Coulee

Start/Finish: Cyclepath
Where, I don`t see no stinkin Red Rocks !

ROUTE:
Head south on Black & White trail to TWP Rd 120
Turn right onto TWP Rd 120 & head to Hwy #3
Turn left onto Hwy #3 & ride SW
Turn left onto Hwy #887 & ride south until you reach the top of the first long steep hill (38 km)
Turnaround & retrace route

RIDE TIP:
This is a flat prairie ride with a kicker just before the turnaround. The kicker is 1.5 km long climb (85m) that has an average grade of 5.7%
This ride is ideal when the wind is from the SW.

EXPRESS TURNAROUND:
Turn around at the railway crossing on Hwy #887 (approx 25.8 km from the start)

Stage 10     48 km     Neil`s Saw Tooth

Start/Finish: Cyclepath
Itching to ride, but it`s windy or there is a storm approaching. Stay close to town and change direction frequently to get breaks from the wind.

ROUTE:
Head south along Black & White Trail
Turn right onto TWP Rd 120 & ride 1 mile west
Turn right (north) onto Range Rd 55
Turn left (west) onto South Boundary Rd & ride 1 mile west
Turn left (south) onto Range Rd 60
Turn right onto TWP Rd 120 & ride 2.4 km west
Turn right (north) onto Range Rd 61a (Desert Blume Rd)
Turn left (west) onto South Boundary Rd & ride until you reach Hwy #3
Turn left (SW) onto Hwy #3 & ride until you reach TWP Rd 120
Turn left (east) onto TWP Rd 120 & ride east 2.4 km
Turn right (south) onto Range Rd 63, stay on the paved road, it will take you 3.2 km south, then 1.6 km east & 2.4 km north
Cross over TWP Rd 120 & follow the paved road to Range Rd 61a (Desert Blume Rd)
Turn left (north) onto Range Rd 61a
Turn right (east)onto South Boundary Road
Turn right onto Strachan Road & finish at Cyclepath

Stage 11     21 km     Redcliff Loop

Start/Finish: Gravity Sports
Who says you have to leave the city

ROUTE:
Ride west along 3rd Street to Saamis Drive
Turn right onto Saamis Drive & climb the hill
Cross Box Springs Road (4.4 km) & continue to Redcliff
Turn right onto Broadway Ave, cross over the railway tracks & Hwy /1
Continue on East Broadway Ave, it will curve south & turn into Box Springs Road
Turn left (east) onto 23rd Street
Continue east on 23rd Street as you pass Division Ave. 23rd Street turns into Parkview Drive
Continue along Parkview Drive down around & back to Division Ave to a set of traffic lights at bottom of hill
Cross over Division Ave, under the railway tracks & around the curve until you arrive at 3rd Street
Turn left onto 3rd St & back to start

RIDE TIP:
This ride is best to be done when commercial & commuter traffic to and from Redcliff is low

Stage 12     25 km     City Sweeper

 
MAP – City Sweeper – 12.5 km’s per lap x2 – 25 km  (Map opens in new tab)

Start/Finish: Gravity Sports
Downtown criterium

ROUTE:
Ride west along 3rd Street to Brier Park Rd.
Turn right (north) onto Brier Park Rd. & climb hill
Turn right (north) onto 10th Ave NW
Turn right (east) at 23rd Street
Continue east on 23rd Street as you pass Division Ave. 23rd Street turns into Parkview Drive
Continue along Parkview Drive down the hill around & back to Division Ave, go under railway tracks & around the curve until you arrive at 3rd Street
Turn left onto 3rd Street
Complete another lap. Try to beat your first lap time

RIDE TIP:
This ride is ideal for those very windy days. You only ride in one direction for short durations
